The Poem

ALICE SPRINGS OPEN 2008

My Darwin girls said "Bobbie, have you got your poem for Alice Springs" I said "No, I wrote two last time they'll be sick of those kind of things" Then a little worm started wriggling and turning in my brain

And I said oh! Goodness gracious, here we blessed well go again.

You all know it's been years since we were down this way And how we love to be here our golfing game to play,

We love the competition and the girls we meet again

And the way that they look after us is scored ten out of ten.

We heard some sad reports that told that all was not going well

With our colleagues in the Centre and we all groaned and said "Aw! Hell." Then in Tony McCormack's speech at our November presentations

She said "Alice Springs really needs our strong participation.

So get behind the Open, make up your mind to make the trip

We need a strong delegation, you'll have fun, I give you the tip"

So henceforth we all rallied to hasten to their aid, For the N.T. Open at Alice, always is first grade. But we are not so blessed noble as I'm trying to make it sound

For come hell or high water to the Alice we were bound.

In December, Margie Fairless starts her N.T. Open list

And checks with each one of us, to make sure no-one is missed. When she has got the numbers, she enquires the airlines fares

To find the best carrier and flight to get us there.

Margie's booked the Palms accommodation literally years before the date With its close proximity to the golf course, we can stagger home quite late When Margie's got it all organised to her entire satisfaction

She writes to us to let us know the things we need to action.

Eventually, we get here, the airline really is relieved

All the women, cases and golf bags have to be seen to be believed. Then it's really not quite over, there is the bus ride to the Palms At least thirty chattering females with much luggage in their arms.

Eventually, we are sorted to our quarters for the week,

Unpacked, then looking forward to that restaurant meal we seek.

Then Wednesday, we'll have a practice round and finish up at the Club And Thursday, we'll be into it, the Foursomes, that's the rub.

The hillscapes will keep changing to pinks, purples, yellow and blue They will probably match your features as they go through every hue. But we will surely find some champions for the year 2008

And all of us will be happy we took part at any rate.

So thanks to the Alice Springs Committee for organising the show We have had our usual great time and will be very sorry to go. But put a note in the diary and mark is as "seventh heaven"

For the N.T. Open in Alice Springs in the year two thousand and eleven.
