Adopting
from The People's Republic of China
Adoptions
from the People's Republic of China to South Australia began in
2000 and since then it has grown into the largest
overseas adoption program in the state. All adoptions in
South Australia are administered by the Adoption Family
Information Service (AFIS), which is part of the Department of
Family and Community Services. AFIS will be able to provide
you with information and advice on the adoption of a child
from overseas. The
adoption program in the People's Republic of China is
coordinated by the China Centre for Adoption Affairs (CCAA).
However the Chinese have a saying that "to
know the road ahead, you
must ask those who are
coming back.”
For
this reason the SACAS Board encourage you to make use of this web site; to email SACAS with your
questions; or to simply attend one of our events and network with
our many helpful and supportive members. SACAS
also recommends that you become involved in the "Host Family
Scheme" coordinated through AFIS. This scheme puts
families in touch with those who have been through the
process and have returned from China with their child. The
information and friendships gained through this program are
invaluable. You
can access this scheme when your dossier has been sent to China. |
