Through February and March each year the Hahndorf Soccer Club plays host to a pre-season tournament, ‘The Summer Club Challenge’ at Pine Avenue which features senior teams from the Hills and across the state every Saturday for five weeks.
The current format consists of two round-robin competitions of six teams each (one for First Teams and the other Reserves) ensuring all sides are guaranteed five games.
Entry to the competition is open to all senior clubs regardless of the league or region they usually play in.
Clubs participating in the inaugural competition in 2006 were Hahndorf (Firsts & Reserves), The Cove (Firsts & Reserves), Sturt-Marion (Firsts & Reserves), Strathalbyn (Firsts & Reserves), The Hills Hawks (Firsts only), Southern Breakers (Firsts only), St Peters Old Collegians (Reserves only) and Mt Barker United (Reserves only).
All clubs agreed that the tournament was well run and provided solid pre-season competition as they built up to their regular seasons.
