TCP/IP If you've ever had our tech support team go through your settings before, you will have come across TCP/IP settings. TCP and IP are protocols that allow computers to communicate with each other. IP determines the address (IP address) to which the data has to be sent, and TCP makes sure all the data arrives correctly. DNS In the TCP/IP settings you will find the primary and secondary DNS settings. DNS stands for Domain Name Server, and that's what lets a computer know exactly what to do when you type in a web address such as www.adam.com.au. The Adam Internet website actually has its own IP address, 203.2.124.133. You can see for yourself: type the numbers into your browser's address bar and the Adam website will appear. When you type in www.adam.com.au, the request is sent to our DNS, which tells the computer what IP address it has to go to in order to find the page you have requested. |
