Adoptive Fatherhood

Becoming an adoptive father of a child born overseas is a big decision and it is one that is truly life changing.  Sadly there is little pre and post adoption support available that is tailored to meet the needs of such men.  I mean what red blooded Aussie male really wants to be trapped in a training room discussing their emotions with a social worker and a bunch of strangers?  Terrified at the prospect of such cruel and unusual punishment, a small group of brave fathers began an epic quest to find a better way!

In their tireless research into adoptive fatherhood and overseas adoption, these intrepid pioneers stumbled across two chance discoveries.

1)  Curry is part of the cuisine of all of the major countries from which South Australian's currently adopt,

&

2)  97% of Australian men love a bloody good curry.

It was a Eureka moment and with that

the Curry Club was born!

The Curry Club is a chance for men to explore issues of inter-country adoption, culture and fatherhood whilst simultaneously enjoying a bloody good curry.  Members of the Curry Club are encouraged to cook curries from the birth country of their adopted child(ren) and to share these with other fathers and prospective fathers.

Get Stuck in & Give Em' Some Curry!

But my child's birth country doesn't have Curry!

The Curry Club doesn't exclude fathers and fathers-to-be with children from birth cultures that don't have curry dishes as a part of their national cuisine.  The fact is that every culture on this planet has a hearty and usually spicy meal that appeals particularly to blokes.  So whether it's an Indian curry, a South East Asian Laksa, a South American Chilli, an African stew or European Casserole - we don't care.  The Curry Club is really about culture, adoption and fatherhood.  Good food is a bonus!

Is There a Curry Club in my Location?

The Curry Club currently operates only in South Australia, however we encourage other Australian States and Territories to consider forming their own Curry Clubs and for them to share their recipes and wisdom with us.  Similarly we welcome contact from like-minded adoptive fathers in other countries.  If you are interested in forming a Curry Club in your location please contact us for further information and assistance.  Long live the Curry Club!

What's all this about raising money for charity?

Oxfam Australia is the chosen charity of The Curry Club.  All proceeds from any fundraising activities will be forwarded to Oxfam to assist them in a wide variety of projects in countries around the world - including many of the birth-countries of our adopted children.  At The Curry Club everyone is a winner!
