Traveling in The People's Republic of China

The world’s fourth largest country, The People’s Republic of China (PRC) is administratively divided into 22 provinces, 5 autonomous regions, 4 centrally administrative municipalities and 2 special administrative regions.

China’s diverse culture, geography, and climate have resulted in a wide variety of travel experiences for SACAS members.  However there are a number of common experiences shared by many that have adopted from the PRC.

The China Women’s Travel Service (CWTS) coordinates all internal travel and provides Guides whilst in China.  Most South Australian’s travel in small groups of 4-6 couples although on occasion one may be required to travel alone.  Typically the CWTS will arrange official appointments and sightseeing to fill only half days.  This provides time for your child/children to have naps and of course to bond with you.  Some days are scheduled as “free-days” to provide an opportunity to explore surroundings in your own way.

As of February 2005, all Australians have travelled to Shanghai for final medical and visa arrangements, providing at least some continuity of experiences of what is arguably China’s most vibrant city.

If you are travelling to China you are encouraged to visit our “traveling-tips” page and our links to weather and travel sites.  However, perhaps the greatest tip of all is summed up by the Chinese proverb:

“Wheresoever you go, go with all your heart.” – Chinese Proverb
