Received a call from Gary Shaw who said that Frank
Van Mastrigt passed away
peacefully at 8pm last night.
He had been confined to a bed, a body weight of 47 kilos and
fed on a diet of ice blocks,
death was not a bad thing.
For those who wish to send a card, his wife's address is:-
1 MacDiarmid Street
Kingaroy Qld 4610

Well Hello
Cyril of Horsham,
Good to hear from you and I hope you can make the reunion. I will
volunteer to look after you and make sure you behave yourself. At least
as well as the rest of us.
My memory of our last contact was Albatross between 84 and 86. I was RS
in charge of the Tower, you were with the other spies in the offices
opposite the Commcen. I am pretty sure Harry Harrison was there at the
same time. Al Paskins as well (I think). Snudge Berry was in the Pay
Office – Birdies Darryl Day and Jaffa Robinson were there at the same
time.
As to Cerberus. I don’t recall – and am slightly confused about why after
knocking me out you would be running away from me. Sounds like you had me
on toast, as usual.

I know things
have changed Tex BUT saying Bob Adamson has a good memory is going a
little bit far. The last memory I have of Bob is him chasing me across
the Cerberus parade ground after I knocked him out in the ring on a
Wednesday afternoon sporty. (Remember that one Bob???). As to the
Divisions I think we actually went through about 3 changes. I know at
some stage I was in Howden Division and CASE O'Neill was our DAD. Sorry I
haven't been keeping up but like our last reunion whenever e-mails start
coming I get a virus from somewhere and get put out of commission (I have
a sneaky suspicion it is Kenny Roberts doing it?? Only joking Ken). I'm
still up in the clouds as to whether or not I can get there next year.
I'm still with Defence in Alice Springs but am supposed to be returning to
Canberra in August 08. They haven't managed to get me back in the last 12
years but I'm not looking good this time. I have been offered a job and
accepted it from RAYTHEON who do contracting work here and it looks like I
will be starting with them in APRIL. Had already put in leave for January
(time share in COOLANGATTA) and also for the end of MAY/JUNE to FIJI for
a wedding so my leave is all up in the air att. Hopefully I can organise
to get to the reunion but it will probably be late notice. If I do am not
sure if my better half will be able to go as well so someone will have to
volunteer to look after me and make sure I behave.
Hi to all the
23rd and hope to see you in March 08
p.s
Thank God your more than just a bunting tosser Tex - the WEB Site is

Received a call from ex CPOCK
Yagmich our divisional CPO. He is now retired on a TPI pension and lives in
Tuart Hill, Perth. I gave him some details about the reunion and gave him
the web site address. If anyone wants to contact him his phone number is
(08) 9349 4653.

I'm not sure who was with me when we done the fence jump and done the
alcohol run to pub where we got picked up by the cops and we told them
we were of the submarine in port at the time we told them the name was
oberon and I'm not sure to this day whether they believed us or not
but they let us go every time I see Hogan's heroes on telly I think of
it watching the docky coppers wander pass then over fence buy the grog
then back and same routine, collecting the money and then buying it
reminding you it was 21 in those days, weren't we naughty. Johno

If my memory services me correctly, we were in several
divisions originally. Marks, Morrow and Stevenson's. The first of the new
blocks had been finished by then, and when the 25th arrived they were put
into those blocks. Remember Cardiac Hill, doubling up and down with our
bedding on our shoulders. This arrangement meant the intakes remained
together from the beginning to pass out. So we were moved into C block for
the Jan to March period so we would pass out as one unit. Ensuring years all
intakes were then accommodated in the one block, the blocks then were
changed to be letter from A to H. The old Stevenson division block C became
A.

My recollection is that. The three division, I think were
Marks, Morrow and Rhodes - occupying B, C and A blocks respectively.
Not completely sure, but I think the "MERGE" (in survivor
terms) happened when we got back from the 68 Chrissy break and that's how we
all ended up on the Ground Floor of C Block as Top Shit.
Which, of course, provided the setting for our most dastardly
deed.

Have received a couple of e-mail's saying that they were in
Rhodes, Marks or Morrow divisions, and not Stevenson as indicated on the
home page, have asked around, and have received a couple of answers that
confirm as to what I recall about how the intake became Stevenson Division.
